Do Not Be Afraid

Facing your fears is not easy. It never has been and I don’t think it ever will be. But we have to do it because “we are more than conquerors” (Romans 8:37). That seems to have been the theme as 2018 came to a close. Within the last two remaining days of the year I was presented with the opportunity to face my fear. Might I say in the moment it didn’t feel good, in fact I was literally trembling, but I did it anyway. God is good. After that moment it made me realize that what I feared was just a false premonition that was not rooted in love or light.

Fear is a mind game that is played in our conscious and subconscious mind to keep us from moving forward, from changing, from making ourselves better. Have you ever heard of the saying “Fear is False Evidence Appearing Real?” It’s a block that tries to maintain the status quo because initially freedom is the ultimate goal. It’s like a prison cell. Only allowing one to move within the confined spaces of his or her present and past.

Now I know some may think well fear has its benefits; it keeps us from harm and allows us to sense impending danger. To that I will say No, there is nothing beneficial about fear. That which you are confusing is between intuition and common sense.

Our intuition is that small voice that leads us and guides us in the right direction. Our intuition tells us not to do certain things or go certain places. Wrapped up in our intuition is common sense. Common sense deals with the practicality of life. If I do A then, B might happen so if I don’t want the outcome of B then, don’t do A. It’s like a scientific hypothesis minus the unpredictability aspect because you know if you do A then, B will occur.

Intuition is rooted in love and light. It serves us to enable us to obtain and maintain the highest possible outcome for any scenario in our lives. Fear, however is not rooted in love or light.

The Bible says that “[we] have not been given a spirit of fear but of power, love, and a sound mind” (2 Timothy 1:7). It also states that “love casts out all fear and that in perfect love there is no fear” (1 John 4:18). The writer of the verse goes on to say that fear has to deal with punishment. So then, Could it be that many people fear because they are afraid that whatever change is going to be made will lead to punishment? That punishment could be people murmuring, it could be the disapproval of family and/or friends, it could even be that feeling of failure.

Love casts out all fear and that in perfect love there is no fear (1 John 4:18).

As I mentioned earlier, fear is a block that tries to maintain the status quo. Fear is that tormenting, taunting voice that tells you not to change. “Oh don’t change your hairstyle people will look at you weird and what if it won’t look good? Oh don’t apply for that internship, scholarship, or job, you haven’t gotten anything before so are sure you will now?” Or it can manifest itself in people who try to project their “concerns” onto you. “Should you go to that school … I mean it is kind of far and you don’t know anyone there? Should you make that move, it’s a new city/state/country and you don’t know how things will go? Are you ready to take that position?”

Fear tries to lock you into staying the same... staying in the familiar. No matter how big or small that change is, fear will always try to stop you. That is because once you make one small change it creates a domino effect in your life to make even bigger and better changes...until you are free from all manner of hindrances and are totally new or different I should say.

After facing my fear I knew I would never have to be afraid of ultimately anything again. I knew that even if I felt the fear I could still move on and go and create and become all I am destined to because the fear is not real. It’s just a block trying to appear real and stop my forward progress. I felt so free after that moment... I knew I could be, I knew I could do anything I set my mind and heart to do. I came back home and I looked at myself and I heard that still small voice say “I am proud of you. You made it. You did it! Now go on and soar... fly. Be all that you are meant to be.”

So I say today don’t be afraid. Don’t allow that fear to stop you. Feel the fear, ignore the doubters, and do it anyway. Be free, make that change to better yourself and your life. Don’t be afraid of leaving the familiar. Be different. It’s worth it and you have a whole army cheering you on! You’ve got this !

Peace and Blessings And so it is!
